Its what it is worth to you....not anybody else. Doesn't matter what anyone will pay for it, if you love the car, and spend pounds on it, so what. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as they say. If I get a bill for £500, that's cheaper for me than shelling out for a new car. And what I can afford, would probably be as liable to go wrong as an Omega would be. So the shelling out would start again, on top of money paid for the new vehicle.

Damn right.  When it boils down to it, if I had driven into a tree and were saying to the insurance 'mend my car/replace it for free, please' that's one thing, but we're talking about someone - ie: me - who has actually tried not to crash, someone drove into me. I know it and the world doesn't work on morality, but that should make a difference when claiming.
