As heading. This car is losing coolant and overheating, but the first I know is when it overheats. Is there a warning light, and, if so, where? I know more recent cars tell me in words. I have known false low indications, but never non-warnings. Could be a failed bulb, but which?

Fluid levels are covered by the check control package, which is fitted to all CD and higher (ie, all Omegas bar GLS and Plod). The warning is on the MID/GID/CID.

Thanks. That explains that. This car has borne a charmed life. It has had 3 HBV failures in 10 years, first announced by overheating light, but head gasket has survived. Now it has a pinhole in the radiator header tank.

Terry, if an expansion tank with sensor can be had for the four pots (I don't know if they're the same as the v6s),
then you could retrofit a MID using Haynes and my guide...

You won't have headlight check control or possibly oil level, but coolant, fuel, brakelights and washer fluid level will all work readily enough... you simply need the stalk, the coolant tank with sensor and the washer fluid sensor, loom tails and some wire and a soldering iron :y

Nit teaching you to suck eggs here but have you checked the thermostat is operating?
As for pinhole in coolant tank or other areas, chuck an egg into the header tank as the water is getting warm and the state is about to open so the water is flowing. Run the engine for at least another ten mins for the egg to work it's way into any leaking area.  :y

People have put eggs into cooling systems for years ...... the world won't end. It's only intended as a very quick, short term fix though  ;)

THERE IS NO DAMAGE DONE TO ADDING EGGS INTO THE COOLANT SYSTEM.
Yes it's meant as a "temp measure" but I have never had issues doing this with the few I have had leak. If it's just the bottle that's leaking it's easily swapped.

Well for starters, put an uncooked egg in the header tank bring up to temp as you suggested, whilst your waiting the HBV kicks in and you now have half cooked egg heading it's way to the heater matrix rad, what doesn't get stuck in there will end up probably cooked on its way to your front rads.

I wouldn't even think about putting Radwel in my Omega let alone a raw egg.

We're talking poached eggs here, Webby, no fat involved. Doubt you've ever heard of them.  ;D
