When i turn the heater on i find i dont get the proper hot heat unless i rev the the engine a bit  Could that be a sign of the hbv on its way out ? No leaks from it though

Normal for a cold engine, but most likely is a lazy thermostat...

It had a new stat less than 12 months ago

Lazy/damaged water pump?
May I ask about a post some time back on the topic of heaters, i.e. now to re-set the flaps by pressing console buttons, please? I cannot remember the details and I know that Al knows EVERYTHING!

I hope not Ron , new water pump fitted a few months ago with cam belt

Have you got the auxiliary pump mounted near the air filter/ coolant reservoir? I think when (not if) that gives up the ghost it acts as a restriction in the heater flow.

That was my thinking too, "Boatboy"; you just beat me to it! That, or some other constriction in the system that yields to the greater water pressure at higher revs.
A quick check would be to by-pass that aux. pump?

Good point ill have a look  Wonder how much a new one of those is from mr stealer

You could just take it apart and remove the impellor, or revert to standard plumbing.

Of course, you then wont be able to keep warm while waiting at a level crossing though.

Hi - I suffered similar woes and replaced the t'stat, HBV and the Coolant Reservoir Cap - however the main culprit turned out to be a misfitted gasket on the EGR mounting - see http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=133208.msg1706876#msg1706876

Either way the cost of the bits is low - the hassle factor is astronomical!!

It does indeed have that pump fitted so at some point it will need looking at but its gone rather cold outside  I guess some suitable plumbing will be required to bypass .
