Can I swop doors on 2 PFL cars?
« on: 12 December 2015, 21:00:59 »

I am scrapping 1998 blue PFL 2.0 manual petrol estate GLS W0L0VBF35W1243950. 2000 PFL  2.5 manual estate V6 CDX WOLOVBM35X1080638 is a lovely car, but the rear doors windows do not move, they have been spragged up with timber (they were originally electrically operated). The GLS has manually wound windows which work.  Both cars are the same colour.

Can I simply swop the doors between cars, to give me opening doors on the 2.5 CDX, or is it not that simple?

Probably not a good idea to post chassis numbers on a public forum  :y

They physical fit.

Removing the black, stuck on rubbing strip without damaging paintwork needs a lot of patience. The bolted on FL one comes off easy :).  Need to swap door cards over to match, which may be issue if one is electric and other is manual.

Ignore that, both are PFL ;D

Front doors are interchangeable across all Omega-Bs, and rears are interchangeable if body style is same (saloon or estate).  You need to swap some bits to match style difference between models and variations.

Thanks, Al. As you said, perfect straightforward fit. Job is done. Door card, trim colour is different, though. Donor car was dark blue, recipient car light grey. Cards look interchangeable except there are no holes in the grey cards for the window winders. Simple job with a hole saw?

I doubt the hole is much bigger than the winder spindle. Which makes it a job for a drill bit. If it goes through cloth, use a handbrace or you will pull a lot of threads.

Helpful advice for me as well but just to clarify, can I swap doors from a FL to a PFL? Not worried about outside trim I just need doors that are rust free!

Yes. Obviously need to swap out doorcard and possibly door door and mirror.

Good advice Nick. The hole is a 30mm hole, and is marked by indentation on the door card. I am nervous of putting a hole saw straight through the card, even with a brace, lest I pull lots of threads. I am considering bathing the area of cloth to be cut with Araldite to contain the threads. Does this sound sensible, is there a better way of doing it?

Further thought. If the fabric is synthetic, perhaps I could fuse it with a hot air gun or soldering iron.

Bear in mind, I haven't seen an Omega door card for a winder, but 30mm seems really large to me.
All of the door cards I've seen have a hole little larger than the spindle and a much larger circular trim piece to cover the gap which would be about your diameter.
