stripped threads on sump plug!

Best solution to repair sump plug that will not tighten or undo to remove.

Which engine?

The answer is very different depending on whether your sump is steel or aluminium.

As Andy says, if a V6, then the pressed steel lower pan has a pressed in ally insert with the thread in it. It's a long time since I bought one, but a new one wasn't stupidly expensive so I just replaced the whole thing. You just need a tube of grey instant gasket to glue it on with.

Hi'the car is a seat leon td ,my son bought it last week,not a trace of a oil leek under the car as he inspected it,the owner did a good job of hiding it.After the 300 miles return drive from Bridport North Devon it was evident that there was a problem,when I noticed oil  on the garage floor. I hope the sellers new Volks Passet has a even biggar problem with his new purchase,it,s just to much hassle to drive a 500+ mile trip to sort things out with him.

I think that car will have a VW engine.

The sump is aluminium. A new sump is about £50 from GSF.

Not a difficult job but you need to check whether it has an oil level/quality sensor before you buy the sump.

I wasn't expecting a Seat though ;)

It just happens that I smashed the sump on SWMBO's Golf a few years ago so I have form when it comes to replacing the sump on that range of engines.

That is quite common on all versions of that platform. The 'sportier' versions which sit lower are particularly prone to it. I've recovered loads of them with an oil trail leading from the speed hump 200metres away. Further than that in some cases, but they tended to have knackered engines. All of the early Octavia taxis on Sheppey have sumpguards as there are a lot of unmade roads, and a lot of expensive repairs as a result.

I thought that I had made it clear that it was my sons car,sorry for any misunderstanding,but back to the Leon it is a lovely car,fast comfortable and cheap to run,I love it.
But I do not think it will pull my caravan!
