I've got used to it after a few days but it doesn't feel right. Standard setting off. Gently release clutch , few revs. Jerky take off. Mrs v says it is a new problem. It is quite hard to judge the biting point and smoothness.

Hasn't been adjusted in 18 months of ownership. No idea when last change of clutch plate. Still got travel after biting point

Any thoughts please?

What mileage? Any noise from the release bearing? Could also be a selector issue rather than a clutch one? Cables can become worn...

No release bearing noise.

It isn't a problem with selecting gears just doing smooth set offs.

Sounds like clutch judder to me.

Candidates would probably be loose engine mounts, contamination of the clutch by oil or coolant, possibly spigot bearing failure or general wear to the clutch. Unlikely after 70k miles, but possible under "one careful elderly previous owner" scenarios, I suppose.

Agree it sounds like the clutch is shot - either the springs on the cover worn unevenly, slight wear on the driven plate splines, or the driven plate worn due to excessive 'slipping' of the clutch (or regular driving with the left foot just sitting lightly on the clutch pedal). If it was oil contamination from the crank seal, you may experience a slight improvement with use as the oil was temporarily burnt off, but it would return after after it had cooled off.

Mmm  engine mounts? Hadn't thought of that . Had thought of contamination. Seems to be better after a bit of use. That could just be adapting driving style though.  If it stops raining ever, I will have a look at the mountings.
