A/C Condenser
« on: 21 June 2016, 21:50:41 »

My A/C Condenser is rotten and crumbing to the touch.  :(  So I guess I need a new one.  ::)  I've seen UKcarcooling recommended a few times on here and indeed I think I bought a radiator from them a few years ago.  :)  Price seems reasonable as well!  :y

How about the drier?  Should I change that as well?

I'm determined to have fully functioning AC before it goes to the scrappy!  ;D

Just a thought, but would the one from my 2.2 DTI fit yours?

I'm local if you want to come and have a look.

As I wasn't planning on selling any engine bits, you could have it for a fiver if you take it out.

We have lots of tools here and I can help. i.e. stand about holding spanners

The only difference I can see from UKCarcoolings website is between PFL and FL.  ie 1994-1999 and 1999-2003  :)

Anyone?  :-\  ???

I had a look at it the other day with a plan to take it out. But I couldn't work out how to, so I thought "sod that".

Personally - I wouldn't bother with a second hand condenser. They are a bit of a faff to change needing the main engine water rad out and therefore the water drained. You don't want to bolt it all back together only to find that your new second hand condenser leaks.

Also, the dryer unit is bolted to the condenser. It contains a sort of silica gel designed to adsorb any water that gets into the system. If the silica gel doesn't work, then the water may freeze in the expansion valve and stop the a/c working. If the condenser has been off a car for any length of time, or if the donor car has had no gas in it for ages, then chances are the silica gel will be FUBAR.

I guess the other issue is if it's still full of refrigerant gas and under pressure.  :(

Isn't it illegal to vent it off?  :-\

Yup - but at least it means the condenser isn't leaking, and the dryer may be serviceable. 8)

Wheres the O ring kit ? I didn't spot that.  :-\
I expect to be ordering one myself tomorrow after official diagnosis of the source of the leak.  :y
Someone sent me the link for it. Cant remember who, but I strongly suspect it was Rob G.  ;D

It pops up in the "Other people ordered..." section when you add to cart.  At £3.something or other it seemed silly not to.  ;)

Thanks again!  :)
