Jobbies to do!
« on: 25 July 2008, 16:41:11 »

Just realised how much I actually have to do in the coming weeks - starting this weekend. A car project may have to wait :(

Jobs to do in house

Urgent

1)      Fix upstairs toilet (new cistern).
2)      Repair back door (refit hinges, secure the top panel)
3)      Repair the bedroom door
4)      Fix bath taps
5)      Re-fit downstairs radiator
6)      Quick decorate in bathroom – paint ceiling, re-grout (or group pen!) tiles. Fix broken tiles behind bath and around sink and mount new cabinet.

Medium

1)      New carpets for
a.      Hallway
b.      Stairs
c.      Bedrooms x 2
d.      Curtain for Hannah’s room

2)      Get Hannah moved into re-decorated bedroom

Lower

1)      Re-wall paper lounge and dining room
2)      Good clean in Kitchen and lick of paint.
3)      Fix leg on dining room table

Believe it or not I am not a DIY whizz in the home but I think I can cope with the above. it's only a rented house so I won't be going to town on it - Just need to make it a bit more habitable and fix what the dogs have destroyed (we're not supposed to have pets ;D )

Err, James, if it's a rented property most of those things are down to the landlord. Surely you shouldn't get involved in plumbing and door fixing should you?  :-/ :-/ :-/

Well the urgent jobs can easily be done with a trip to Screwfix, they stock most of the parts. Doors are cheap, sometimes easier to replace than repair.

As far as decoration, you could always try the easy way of applying paint. Lift the carpets, and borrow a compressor and spray gun!. I had a long garden fence to paint, and only my kids to do it. I pulled out a compressor and spray gun, and the job became fun and they were queing up to do it.

Getting anything out of the landlord is like getting blood from a stone. It would take at least 12 months.

If we are going to be there for 2 more years for example, I'd rather spend £300 and get it worth living in at least - nothing more.

The doors etc I will be able to create some bracing bars to secure the hinges etc, so it will cost pennies and save a lot of hassle...

The cash can then continue to build until the time is right to buy us somewhere...

I've got a list very much like that.  I wrote it out 7 years ago, when I was out of work.  Then I got a job.

Guess how much got done. :)

I'm out of work again now - guess how much is going to get done. :)
