2001 petrol 2.2 saloon
This is the car I bought on e-bay for £196 in July. I sorted it and handed over to my son 9 days ago. It has developed a lockiing fault He complains:
I have one question for you - how easy is it to disconnect the car alarm?  The car remote only responds when the car is unlocked at the drivers side - unfortunately the remote doesn't lock that, so it has to be done manually.  It did previous unlock the rest of the car but not any more - which means I have to now manually unlock the driver's door first, which sets off the alarm. 
Will swopping the driver's door remote motor unit cure it?

Might well be the driver's side locking motor as that contains a switch that triggers the (un)locking of the other doors. See the guide for replacing the microswitches inside. Only costs a couple of quid.

Alarm and central locking are all integrated into one ECU, so not easy to disable.

Shutting the driver's door and reaching in and locking the car through the rear door, then shutting that, disables the alarm.

Thanks. I have found a spare door lock and motor labelled DRIVER in my spares heap, so will try that.

Thanks. Plugs might be a problem. Sick car is X reg 2.2, donor car was R reg 2.0. Will recover sick car from Chippenham and investigate.

WTF do I know? .... assuming removal of PS will help keep the car free of sooty deposits, but won't stop the alarm going off?

My alarms still work, with both PS removed.

I accept I could remove the power sounder, which would solve son's honking problem. It would not improve his central (un)locking problem, though. I hope changing the driver's door lock and motor will solve both problems. I may have a spare, I may not.

Just read Tunnie's excellent guide on how to change door locks. He did it on a 2001 2.2CD. My sick car is a 2001 2.2CDX. Door motor part no. he gives is 90493702, same as my spare. The plug has six wires to it. I am wondering if only the driver's door motor utilises all six.

I'm pretty sure plugs don't differ between PFL and FL for the motors    changed plenty and sold loads of em , do feedback when you find out

It won't...

Powersounder only sounds if a specific sequence of events is not followed, or it or the alarm horn are unplugged whilst the alarm is triggered.

All my plugs were the same size, all my spare lock motors same part no. GM 90493702. Driver's door sockets used all 6 pins, other doors only three. Job is now complete, all faults cured. Thanks for all advice.
