An LPG Experiment...
« on: 27 July 2008, 00:27:32 »

Normally on a run, I get between 21 and 23mpg on gas.

Today I had a leisurely 80 mile run to do.

I filled up with LPG before I left and instead of driving at my usual motorway speed of 80/85 mph, I drove between 65 and 70 miles per hour.

Filled back up again after the trip, and the total cost ws £6.65 - 12.12 litres, which works out at 30.2mpg, on Gas!

It works out that I'm effectively achieving the equivilent running costs of around 65/70 miles per gallon if it was on petrol ;D

Maybe I will learn to ease off that throttle ;D

Just proves that for all the talk of chips, changing engines, changing cars,  etc etc.. the biggest factor on fuel consumption is the drivers right boot !!!

This is no joke - I have had 600 miles out of the tank of a 1996 2.5 V6 Auto! Works out at 42mpg.

I think I still hold the record :D

Your right foot would do much better than the cruise - as it tries to hold 60mph by accelerating up hills....bad for economy!

In theory yes, but, with the best will in the world, you WILL match the speed of surrounding traffic in short order. In this day and age that means 80 ish all the way -- worse than accelerating up hills ( you will be doing that yourself ). Tried, tested and catalogued human behaviour ::)

I could have told you that driving at between 65/70 would use less fuel than driving at 80/85 :)

I use both....

cruise for the flats and downhill, manual for the uphill sections, that way i can prevent the car from giving it the beans up the hill and kicking down
