3.2 timing belt kits - where from?
« on: 21 January 2017, 17:18:51 »

Have a brace of 3.2s needing a change - and buypartsby seems to have disappeared from the interweb?

Best price VX can do is £180 each or thereabouts. .. if I buy a Contitech kit via ATPs eBay shop that should be genuine right? Looking at £ 130 each at the moment.

Yep, they have gone up significantly since I last did mine. Your deal sounds about right.

I find the earlier kits with the 2 adjustable pullies are cheaper if you don't mind swapping the backplate over.

BuyPartsBy are these people, I think? http://www.suttonautofactors.co.uk/

That is a massive price hike - are they offering any discount?

Sounds like a retail/workshop price rather than the more traditional trade counter one...

That said, you could see if they're doing a fixed price for supplied and fitted... you never know, it might be £240 :D

Iirc, you can use the 3ltr kit if you sort out the pulleys with the added advantage of been able to adjust both sides for tension  ;)
You might find they are cheaper  ;)

I seem to recall-from on here-that back plate excepted V6 timing belt kits are a "one size fits all"deal?I've just looked through my paperwork and on 15/3/16 I paid £44.62p for a timing belt kit from a company advertising on e-bay.This was a Contitech belt with SKF bearings and included a water pump with metal impeller.DLK came and fitted it for me and swapped the bearings/tensioners over onto the existing backplate which from what I saw was no hassle to do.I've refrained from naming the company I got mine from as I'm unsure whether this is allowed on here, but would be happy to do so if it is.I have no connection with the company other than that I bought the kit from them.

That certainly is cheap, including as it does a water pump. I bought a couple of INA kits last summer after some time watching e-bay for bargains. I bought the first for a belt change that was due, then some e-bay outfit had some it wanted to shift and pestered me with ever better offers. Eventually I bought one for stock at £30, though I had no need for it at the time. I suppose, as Nick W said about plugs, these are consumable items for mass market cars and with patience bargains can be found. God bless the internet!

And you can swap patience for convenience; a Continental belt kit for my car on the shelf at ECP retails for 2/3 of the quoted Vauxhall price. That's from just a few seconds on their website with my reg number.

But I agree with Terry, a cambelt is planned maintenance(four years or 40k miles are unlikely to sneak up on you!) and can easily be sourced in plenty of time. The one I fitted about 18months ago was bought a couple of months earlier and was about £80. No, I don't remember who the supplier was.

Prowling e-bay for timing (cam belt) kits for V6 Omegas, the Gates, Contitech and AC Delco kits depict the belt, the 2 pulleys on the backing plate and the idler pulley, but not the sprung tensioner pulley. I cannot believe they do not include the tensioner pulley; why is it not depicted? When last seeking a kit I enquired of the AC Delco kit vendor whether the kit included the tensioner, and was told it did not. Please explain what is going on.
