Brake pad shims
« on: 09 March 2017, 11:58:03 »

Hi...
I am renewing the brake pads all round and changing fluid.
Question is...the old rear pads have loose shims fitted, but the new pads (Pagid) have what looks like a steel shim fitted to the back of the brake pad already. Can I fit the pad as is, or will I still need to add the loose shim, which will obviously double the shim thickness. Or will this cause problems.
TIA, fellas. :y

Has it busted completely or do you mean its come apart on the rivet? .if its come apart i would either fit new ones which will be easy to source for a 2 litre or just re rivet it back together.personally i would use a small steel short bolt hammered over to create a rivet rather than an aluminium  rivet but thats just me.

If your is the 2 litre with non vented discs you should be able to find a set at any local factors. Not just for the omega either. I beleive simlar set up is found on lots of vauxhalls such as carlton mk3 ,senator mk1 and 2 ,calibra ,some saabs .if you had the vented discs then thats a different matter. No place seems to have them even when they promise they will be correct. ,

Ive got the new ones out and as i said they are only for the non vented discs. Any for the vented will be hard to get and dont trust what ebay or any factors tell you. Unless you are very lucky even if they order them in they will be wrong. Weve all done this many times on here. Mine were ok .i just had to rivet one back together. Maybee if you only need one someone on here may have one ? ? Cheers.

Terbs, I have loads of non vented pins and springs if you need any.

As Genuine GM OE rear pads can be picked up for a tenner, these come with shims, pins and springs, I have a collection now ;D

Due to piss poor tyres, and traction control, I've got through a lot of rear pads since the garage was rebuilt :P
