The Aspergers brain
« on: 14 March 2017, 17:40:12 »

My lad has Aspergers, he is a wizard at maths and puzzles. He loves 'Only connect' whereas I just stare blankly at it. He was explaining to me about a question he got right and complaining it was getting easier. If you haven't seen it, you get a series of four statements/numbers/letters etc, and the earlier you get the fourth one, the more points you get. Here's the question:

1) A(1in 13)    2) AA(1in17)     Then he got it. What?
If you have seen it, please don't jump in.

My son has Aspergers also; I'll try him on it when he comes in. Don't give the answer away gents, please.

I was annoyed at myself for not getting it but a change in circumstances meant I didn't twig as early as I should have ::)

I wouldn't have got it without a change of brain, never mind circumstances.

Love that show.

Frankly I feel I'm doing well if I can get 2 or 3 right in the whole damn half hour.

It's not easy and, unless your brain works in a certain way, you're certainly not going to be able to come at it from the right direction.

Right, for those that are interested..it's the probability of choosing any ace from a pack of cards.

1) There are four aces and 52 cards so 4/52=13.
2) There are now three aces and 51 cards so 3/51=17
3) There are now 2 aces and 50 cards so 2/50=25
The answer they were looking for 4) AAAA (1 in 49)

My brain tends to work in a cretin way rather than a certain way. :D ;D
