Just a general warning that I have had three telephone calls today from individuals claiming to be from "Microsoft Windows" and stating I had "faults" on my PC and they needed remote access.  Needless I told them what I knew of them and I work alongside Kent Police.  It is amazing how quick the phone then goes dead!

Most of us know about these scams, but please warn the vulnerable about you who could be fooled by this.

I have reported it to Action Fraud as strangly, before "International" flashed up on caller ID, a telephone number appeared

I NEVER open anything that i am unsure of, and if reputable sites like PayPal do not address me by name, as genuine emails from them qalways do, but use generic forms like "Dear customer, etc., they are immediately dumped and blocked.
Hotmail's blocking system is a joke, though - sh*tloads of blocked sites still get through!

I too had a phone call from Microsoft's security the other week ...... never knew Microsoft had offices in Blackburn ..... they didn't even have the sense to hide/block their phone number  I just asked them where in the world they were.  They hung up ....... 

Thinking back, I should have reported it ....... not that plod would have acted on it.

I have a hotmail account that I've had for years, with a non personalized email address that I use for anything that requires me to "register" and/or provide an address. I log in about every week or so and just delete everything. If this email address disappeared or for some reason became non-functional, it would make no difference to my life and cause zero inconvenience.

I really like hotmail !    It dramatically cuts down the crap in my "proper" address.  you know bigsuperstud@misterperfect.com

Yes, Rog, it's fine for a throwaway email address, but certainly not for your everyday needs. Zirk recommended mail.com as a throwaway, and I use that now.

Earlier in the year i had nearly daily calls cleverly showing a none existent Spanish number yet couldnt speak Spanish. Made me think they had the number from an English speaking source despite me never entering win a free car type comps. I suspect obtained from a bona fide source. E.g.  A bank employee selling data . The phone rongs amd if you answer quickly you have to wait for an available "this os colin from microsoft"

No calls now so assume the use fresh bought data periodically.

My 'Microsoft security' call was on my land line ....... I only  get scammers & my Mum use it    ...... & I'm  still in the phone book

TPS?  Yes they are bloody useless. Yet again I have had them come back to me over the scam call that I reported to them  They state that my complaint cannot be dealt with by them as it is a scam and it is outside their remit to deal with it, despite me being able to give them the number of where the call is from that I want stopped.

Just as well of course that, as I said, I also reported it to Action Fraud; but they won't immediately stop the calls!

No wonder there are so many telephone scams!

I have had hundreds of calls purporting to be from TalkTalk over the last couple of years. Numbers change almost every time so its hard to block them, but as soon as I hear the Indian accent "I'm from your internet service provider blah blah blah, then the angry head goes on.
I haven't been with Talktalk for over a year ,but they try to tell me I am, and they need to sort out my computer for me.
I have found a use for these people though. All the dark, evil hideous things I would almost never say to another human being, get poured out on these specimens of pondlife.
I couldn't even begin to post on here the things I say to them. I feel much better afterwards. So they are unknowingly providing me with a type of much needed, free therapy.

I did ..... many years ago. But as Lizzie says,  they're less than useless.
