though how he reached 89 is a modern day miracle

Sorry for your loss Andy.    When my Dad died aged 92, I took some comfort from knowing that I’d had the pleasure of having him around for a lot longer than some unfortunate souls, and I was grateful for that.

It will take a while for it to sink in, especially for your Mum as he will obviously have big a large percentage of her life.

I wasn't especially close to my Dad, and I still, ten years later, wish we had had more of a relationship. He would have been 80 a couple of weeks ago.

As above, it's a modern miracle that he lived till 89. He drank & smoked Capstain Full strength cigs for years!

Condolences Andy. Even if you're expecting it it's still a hard blow. We lost dad(still the greatest man I've ever known) in the mid 1970s at the all too young age of 56. As terbs said I still miss him even now.
