People in London seem to lose all concept of distance. When I was looking down there I looked at catford and flats were merely unreasonable (2 bed was about £180k at the time -4yrs ago ish).

When I told people in the office they looked at me like if told them I was going to commute from cumbria. Yes it would take longer, but I'd rather have known I was on the property ladder and getting some of the benefits of the London market, rather than paying someone else's pension.

My experience is, that they get attached to a certain area. In this case Shoreditch, because it was a very cool place for a young person to live
Now however it has become uncool because its too popular.  ::)
No, me neither.  ;D

My colleague (who's on secondment with us) chose to live in Shoreditch when he moved to the uk He works for a big accountancy firm, is vegetarian and his only hobby is going to the gym.

If they're all as cool as him, the place must be rocking!  :y

I believe there is a by law which means you can only walk the streets of Shoreditch if you have an Apple Mac under one arm and a copy of the Grauniad under the other.  :y ;D

In my early youth, Albs, Shoredith was - what shall I say - very low rent; as for the Grauniad (was the manchester Guardian back then), reading was a skill not acquired by many!
It was near to Petticoat Lane, though..... :y 8)

Credit cards are devil's work...

Not if used & paid off each month. They can be very handy & convenient  ;)
Hmmmm if you can pay it off each month then you don't need one ::)
If you AREN'T paying it off every month, then you are getting into a whole array of trouble...  ...and then you SHOULDN'T have one.

Most credit cards offer some kind of rewards system, thanks to all those who do default (cheers :y), that's worth taking advantage of, as its some of the additional protections (but note debit cards now also have protections in place as well).

As dad drummed into me, if you can't afford it, don't buy it. Simples.  Although he did cut me slack when I needed a mortgage ;D

Then there was the £1200 Burberry coat, the Argentinian leather jacket (price undisclosed so far) a pair of those shoes with the red soles (god knows how much),  and mustnt forget the Arsenal season ticket -£thousands I should think.
Rent is over 2 grand a month. How much of a mortgage would need that amount as a monthly repayment ?  ::)

£24000 each year. :o :o :o She must be a wealthy woman.

I understand why people rent short term, but in the long run there is too much 'dead money' going to waste.

Earned a decent salary until 3 months ago. Now jobless and living on savings. 2 grand a month for a 1 bed, 3rd floor flat, is madness to me, but the market value of the flat is over £700,000, so saving a deposit for that while paying over 2 grand in rent isn't easy.
Buying all those shoes and clothes doesn't help at all of course, but that's women for you. ::)

Hard to get my head around this equation.

I suppose 'planet London' can charge whatever it wants. ;)
Which suits me, if the daft want to live in that hellhole, it keeps them away from me :)

Either of them is reason enough to be on "the list" when I become President of the UK ;)

Generally use my cc for work expenses so get the vast majority of it back when I put my expenses claims in. The same as TB I was brought up with the moral of if you can't afford it you can't have it.
