Big thanks to Mr Sassanach...
« on: 09 August 2008, 20:54:59 »

I'd just like to express sincere thanks to Mr Sassanach.

As you will know the gearbox on my Elite was knackered. Sassanach kindly agreed to give us a hand getting it sorted today. This was much appreciated as I wouldn't have been able to do it otherwise, given the rain.

But not only did we change the gearbox, my new gearbox has been overhauled, including a complete sump removal and filter clean out, but more importantly the innards came out and it now has the uprated Sonnax thrust washers in it.

Not only did Sassanach do this for me, but he also did it step by step, showing us the process very clearly, explaining what exach gearbox part was, what it did, and how it fitted, and lots more tips. So good was his demonstration that I would feel pretty comfortable having a go myself next time  :)

Anyway once the box was rebuilt, Markie, Sassnach and myself fitted it back onto the car - in pretty much record time.

For completeness we also flushed out the rad oil cooler for the autobox, so it's had an entire ATF change.

Drove very well on the way home - so an excellent result, and one major job off the list.

The box should also be a lot stronger now with metal, rather than plasic thrust washers in it.

After that, we plugged the laptop in and got the LPG fuel mapping sorted out on Sassanach's son's Omega Elite, and also on the Caddilac (what an absolute beauty!)

Thanks again mate, you're a star and it really is appreciated. See you soon :y

Glad you got it sorted, and were able to help with the LPG.

I must admit the first time I looked inside an automatic gearbox I started wondering about the sort of mind that could design such a device. :-/

Was there any sign where the leakage had occurred on your old box, by the way?

I guess I'm used to working with electronics that would make an autobox appear trivial, but it all seems to be lot more scary when it's little hydraulic channels rather than tracks on a PCB!

Mr Sassanch, pleaseee can you send me your paypal address?

I owe you for the HBV, the thrust washer, and the ATF. As per PM, I've been wanting to get the funds over to you, but I don't know where to send...  :y
