Only use BP , not ultimate though, hence the reason for my recent op, done no good for my hems in the end

My beastie certainly ran much sweeter on Optimax/Ultimate.  Distinct difference when on Tesco/Sainsbury's best (and cheapest....)

I used to fill up on Shell Optimax in my old Mitsubishi and it definitely ran better - more responsive - at first i thought it was in my head, but the wife could tell when i did and didnt put the good stuff in

not a massive difference - but noticeable - usually if its less than 10p a litre difference I'll get it

back 10 years ago when i had a Cav Sri130 I used to put what ever petrol was nearest at the time in but whenever i went to BP garage the car used to pink afterwards so never put BP petrol in since

used to drive a hyundai lantra 1.6 dohc. that had a huge improvement running ultimate. 6/7 more mpg and it felt like another 10 horses under the bonnet.

put some in my 99 MV6, crap. 18 to the gallon no more speed, in fact it felt lumpy and rubbish. back to asda.

another time however, with the miggy, I bought an stp power pack - red bottle of cleaner and orange bottle of distilled high-octane kerosine (aka speed boost)
put the cleaner in a whole tank, car got better over the tank.

when that tank was empty I put 25 litres of asda petrol on top of the 'orange juice' (supposedly treats 60 litres)

now that was a fun few days

noticed a remarkable improvement in performance and very smooth tickover.

If you want to get more out of an x30xe by simply raising the octane then in my experience you need to raise the octane quite a lot. (4 or 5 points!)

I have noticed the same, as mentioned, the engine needs to be in good shape for you to feel and notice the difference.
