I would say they are deliberately manufactured to be 'optimistic' because manufacturers  know that most people can't be arsed to do a brim to brim test.


Jag Trip computer is about 20% optimistic.

Yep, the manufacturer published figures are optimistic, so the readouts have to match.

Nope, the speedo is set to display over, the speed signal is actually pretty accurate  :y

They are usually ok over longer journeys, its short journeys and lots of stop/start where they are not good

My astra is reading 46.5mpg. Last time I tried the brim to brim method, it worked out at around 44, so not that far out.

i'm pleasantly surprised how accurate the omega computer works out my bad petrol consumption  ;D
i'm constantly varying the weight of junk ,tools etc in the boot,back seat ,passenger footwell ,any other space i can find  ;D

Not so. Average figure quoted is around 50, and I certainly don't hang about.
