its to do with how light you are on the brakes, enough to stop the front wheels moving but light enough to let the back wheels move under load, but not advised, a waste of rubber and a waste of rear brakes

Isn't it the traction control having a fit?
What course is he using? I'd recommend speaking to an instructor if he wants to get trained in things like that.

the best burnouts are accidental ones, leaving a car park last week i failed to notice the tc was off, it had just started to rain and i needed a quick pull away because of busy main rd,
result was a big cloud of smoke in my rear view mirror and lots of plod looking out the windows of the police station opposite WHOOPS ;D

It's close to that time again.. When I realise I'm driving to a tyre depot to get my rear tyres changed and I don't care how much they get worn down on the way...  ::) :o :-X

To do it "properly" you need a line lock on the front brakes. You'll cook the rear brakes and run out of feet (assuming a manual? I doubt an auto would brake traction off the line unless seriously abused) otherwise.

As said, TC will kill the fun immediately.

.. of course, that you really need is something so light and yet so powerful that you can break traction with a blip of the throttle...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cq2mSx7zjKs

.. as he pulls away you can see him reach down and release the line lock.

Mad friday before the Gendarmes got tough.  :-X

Kevin, an auto 'can' do a burnout.

Managed to do one easy enough in the old one I had, although it was only 1 wheel spinning up due to the diff...  Was on tarmack too, not grass...
