I think the sad thing is the whole idea of xmas has gone out the window, presents are expected and no longer a surprise.

A few houses down my street had there bloody external xmas lights fitted and turned on by mid november along with there xmas trees so much for x amount of days before xmas what a joke.

Still each to there own

Well the meaning of christmass is to celebrate the birth of jesus mainly and remind ourselves that we should always keep our hope for something better. The meaning of christmass is not for woolworths to make a massive revenew because of the brainwashing that the people have sustained from early october every year. I don't find the thread offensive at all as it doesn't criticise christmass but it critisises mainly the mistaken and materialistic people perception about it.

I heard the first christmas advert in late september :o I think that christmas has just been developed into a trojan horse by commerce to extend the "festive period" for as long as possible to maximise profits, and this has led to the loss of the true meaning of christmas :( by the time christmas week comes I've had enough, good job the spirit returns when I finish work on christmas eve.
What I say is KEEP CHRISTMAS IN DECEMBER!!!

As much as i'm saddened to see Fin leave in this way, ( coz i'm sure you'll agree he's contributed a great deal towards this forum and has made me laugh so many times ) everyone is entitled to their own opinion and this is ( if i'm not mistaken ) a general chat section. I too am not religious in any way and Christmas costs me an absolute fortune each year as i have five kids and one wife. I spend all year working ( very rarely having holidays ) looking forward to this time of year so i can spend time with my family and generally chill out. Times have changed and we have to move with them.

Tunnie you should go to Europe for Christmas.  We spent last Christmas in Austria. 2ft of fresh snow in the centre of town, everyone wrapped up and tastefully decorated wooden lodges -  post card perfect.  We had a sleigh ride round the village in full ski gear as it was -15 at night, drinking warm gluwine and everyone being friendly.  No vandalism, no crime just everyday folks having a nice time. The year before in Switzerland the hotel staff bought the guests presents - kids and adults.  How nice  :)

Can't go this Christmas though as I have a new baby - so I'm going in Feb instead which has it's advantages.  More chance of snow, its warmer - ok yeah and the wife cant go cos shes looking after the baby so I get to go solo.  ::)
