The Govt. doesnt go bust. It just borrows or prints more money , so your safe.
My pension did the hokey cokey with SERPS years ago. Im completely lost with it and wont know if its right or wrong, even when Im living off it.
What I do know is that if I dont work until Im around 70, it will be spuds and only spuds, with no Poteen to wash it down with until I go to the incinerator.  ::)

Yep, and some who seem to know these things predict that the total World population will hit 12 billion by 2050, or something like that ;D ;D ;D

Thank! God I'll be dead well before then! 8) 8) ;D ;D :)
97 is not a massive age these days, Lizzie. We might still be posting on here, telling Jaime he should he should be settling down now he's 80.  ;D

Maybe not, but both my parents lived to 88, my great aunt, 95, for me that is well long enough Steve. I will need constant rest by 80 anyway as my body will be completely knacked! :D ;)

When my firm closed their final salary scheme and went over to "money purchase" one, i was advised to stay in SERPS. When i retired in 2009 i was getting more from my state pension per month than my last job paid. Along with a top up from the works pension it's made retirement a lot more comfortable.  :y

Getting knocked off my motorbike at just under a ton didn't help my body. The sliding didn't hurt, the abrupt stop as I hit a concrete post did.  ::)
When I get out of a chair, I walk like a penguin for a few seconds until my hips, knees and ankles come back to life.  ;D

Motorcycle accidents seem common with gentlemen of a certain age.

My bike scars only hurt when the cold gets in....

Depends what you want from your retirement. There's no need for a lot of dosh if you're too old to enjoy it.
.......

I agree. As I've posted before, my parents did have a substantial amount of savings from when my dad took early retirement and took twenty five percent of his pot as a tax free lump. The sad thing is, they saved for so many years afterwards that they had to self fund when they needed care as they were well over the savings threshold. They are now both on social care as the money has gone on care, so they may as well have spent it and enjoyed it.
I'm lucky to have worked for the same company for fourty years and have a damn good pension, so when the company asked if I'd be interested in retiring early (I'm 58), with full consent as it is at company request, it was a no brain'er so I jumped at the chance. I have twenty working shifts left before retiring.
Just need to work out where to hide my money so that I don't lose it if I need care.  ::)  Mrs YZ assures me that it won't be a problem spending it, which worries me slightly.  ;D
