Don't see anyone, don't go out, don't do anything...

Ffs, that's all I have been doing since March. All I wanted was two days out to have a pint or two :-X

'dangle berries' to it, I am back off to bed.

Wake me up next year.

Do you have something to keep you warm. I don't mean a hot water bottle. :)
She's in Tier 4, so there's that...

This is a good watch

https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0blmn5l

Yes it is and highlights what I have read and is considered by many historians as being the facts about the origins.  Other theories do exist as I said, with a Chinese connection, but the facts would tend to favour this explanation, with the Avian or Pig connection.

What is certain is that it killed at least 50 million, some say 100 million, others as little as 17 million, which personally I have discounted in the past when reading all the facts.

A fascinating event in history that due to the current situation is even more relevant today. ;)

You survived that one Lizzie, and you'll survive this one. :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

;D ;D ;D :y :y  Well, for me more importantly is I missed WW1 and WW2.  Compared to them both, and the Spanish Flue, we have all escaped the real horrors of major World wide events..................well apart from you Opti who I believed lived through WW2! :o :o :y :y :y :y

I'm a veteran of the Boer war. ;D

I was very young though.

Apparently all of the shops in Wales have been absolutely rammed this evening (Argos, etc) because they all have to close tonight, with only about 6 hours warning. A couple of reports from London saying a mass exodus is on at all of the major rail terminals.

a great way to spread the virus, cramming everyone in the shops rather than just let the shops open as normal till crimbo  ::)

I am somewhat confused that, being in the very suddenly created Tier 4, I am no longer allowed to see my family at Christmas time, with less than a week's notice - but, in the same Tier 4, "places of communal worship" are allowed to continue opening and functioning?

It's not meant to be derogatory at all, I just don't understand it. I can't meet the three or four people closest to me, but, I could still go to a church / synagogue / mosque, with 100+ people in it, and that's ok?

It's actually very simple.. if you get off the outrage bus and apply a little common sense ...

Your visitors at home will be in an enclosed space, will hug and kiss and move around, and you will be in close proximity for a length of time ... ie .. you risk spreading the virus between you by personal contact.

In the place of worship, which is much larger, there are strict rules on "social distancing", "one way systems" and sanitising stations ....  you are there to pray and not converse with others, you remain distanced and the time limit is short .. the risk of transmision of virus is therefore much lower...

It's the same stupid argument about going to a restaurant versus a wedding reception ....  I can attend a restaruant with my wife, have a nice meal and leave, and the ONLY person I converse with is the one waitress. ........how many weddings have you been to where you speak to no-one ?? NONE .. everyone wants to speak/dance/converse .. it is the whole "social" purpose of going to the wedding .. to see relatives you haven't seen for a while ...

I really do wonder what has happened to common sense these past few months ....  The government is being blamed for "spreading" the virus .... pretty imposible actually... the government has given the virus to no-one.... as it is spread by personal contact between human beings ... YOU and ME ....

Stay away from other people and you don't catch or spread the virus .....  seeemples

There's also the amount of time you spend together: an hour at church with plenty of space, or all day in one room arguing with relatives are very different risks

I wonder how many folks when they found they are now in Tier4 , quickly packed and hit the road to their second home ( assuming they have one)

Yet, wedding receptions are also apparently still permitted. And that fact, defies your logic.

I'm not on any "outrage bus". That's a wide sweeping conclusion. My issue is not with what I can, or cannot personally do. Just with the inconsistencies in the rules.

Another generalisation, I'm afraid. Whist I accept this is undoubtedly true for many, it doesn't apply to me, thank you. I'd be happy if I could just travel out of my area, and see my mum (who I haven't seen for 9 months) in a park for 15 minutes, at a 5 meter distance, just to hand over presents. That would make it all worthwhile. I miss her very much.

I appreciate your points are fairly valid to most of the population, but please don't tar me with the "apply some common sense brush".

I could apply common sense, and exchange presents with my mum for an hour, in a much safer manner than most places, such as places of worship.
