What has changed to allow the border between UK and Europe mainland to be able to re open?

Why hasn’t the UK scored a coup by gifting any stranded lorry/van driver a “ Red Cross xmas parcel”? Cost would be minimal but goodwill would be immense.

Do they provide mobile toilets for all those lorries “ parked”

The cynic in me thinks this is being stage managed as part of the Brexit negotiations. A snapshot of chaos to soften up the “ Red Wall” ( includes the ERG that will vote against  a watered down deal )

You may very well be right. :y
Yesterday in Norn Irn, Sinn Fein were arguing very strongly to ban travel between N.I. and G.B as a matter of public health which should be above all partisan politics.
Then someone from the DUP suggested that if that was the case they should also agree to shut the Irish border for the same reasons.
Sinn Fein blew their tops at the very thought of it, and then watered down their previous demands.
Point being, Politicians are generally so lacking in morals, that they have no problem using the Pandemic, which is costing untold loss of life, to try and further their own agenda.
They make me sick.

Oh yes, this is politics playing a game. Well, it's worked with me as I now would say let's agree with the French on the fishery business - give them half the "English" Channel if necessary - and let us all move on with a good Post Brexit deal.  British fishermen may get furious about this, but let's face it that part of our business with the EU represents a tiny percentage of the entire huge business we do with them in both directions.  Why put up with any action resulting in a no deal when so much more is at stake.

The queues of lorries down here just show how bad it could get come 1st Jan. :o :o

Some truckers are complaining that all they have been offered is a cereal bar during their wait. I thought these guys had a small kitchen in their rigs. ???

Those that I see parked up on every available part of the path/grass/slip roads etc in Kent seem to have a mobile kitchen on board and they all congregate around a central buffet area in their flip flops and shorts .

I say shut the incoming boarded and let them all pile up in Calais that would soon get the French moving a bit smartish

I don't know if they're still doing it but at the start of the pandemic the Irish police had checkpoints on the NI/RoI border.  ::)

The French have done exactly what I would have expected them to do, and what I hope we would do if the tides were turned.  Not that Boris has any balls, and would just, you use his own words, bluster.

But don't let reality get in the way of a good conspiracy.

Why not? Repeating conspiracies is one of the best ways of figuring out who is too stupid to be allowed out internet access without supervision
