Question for y,all. What hand cleaner do you use after working on the oily bits ?
I used to use green Swarfega, but now theres orange as well, and all kinds of other products.
Swarfega is getting bloody expensive too for what it is, so looking for alternatives that work well.

Quite a lot of people just wear latex gloves now, maybe barrier cream first.

They usually end up torn to shreds, hanging down my wrists within 5 minutes.

We used Swarfega Lemon (Yellow) at work for oily hands and by strange coincidence that's what I have in my containers at home. 
It's the one that feels gritty, like someone has put sugar in it.

Read good things about Lidl W5 hand cleaner. Looks like it currently only available in Norn Irn for some reason.

I bought some stuff that looks and feels like rough custard.  It's called Manista, on the Bay of E. Got two 700ml tubs for a tenner. Smells lemony, cleans well and leaves hands feeling smooth.

I have a deal with SWMBO. she does the grub, i clear up the mess and wash up.

I use washing up liquid and Cif surface cream cleaner on my hands ,that comes out the housekeeping budget 
I've got a big tub of Swarfega in my workshop ,rarely use it though

That's a coincidence .... work uses the same orange Tufanega that I do

I use Swarfega orange here but also like Comma Manista

If I have to buy hand cleaner, I prefer the almost dry paste type like THIS It lasts longer, is easier to use, and for workshop use makes less mess. Plus you can put a small quantity in a container or even sealed plastic bag in a toolbox without having it leak.


A good barrier cream before starting work makes a big difference too. A small can of DERMASHIELD would last most DIYers a couple of years.



But I find any of the cleaners from industrial suppliers all work, and don't see the point of insisting on a particular brand. I bet that doesn't surprise any of you

I have a bottle of an unknown brand of gritty orange stuff that does the job and all the gritty stuff (plastic micro beads) goes down the drain and feeds the fish!

I wear nitrile gloves and a thicker workflow over the top.
And clean my hands with normal pump soap with ca spoon of brown sugar.

This. I use vinyl gloves as they last longer than nitrile, although they trap more sweat in.

If I do end up with grubby mitts, washing up liquid and sugar. White or brown, both work.

+1 for washing up liquid, works a treat on oily hands.

This is good. Available in Finland, too.

Just bought some of this W5 hand cleaner today in Lidl - had a good number of tubs of it on the shelves.

Couldnt find it available on the website. I will go into an actual shop and have a look.

Swafega Orange, but if I'm stuck I use Fairy Liquid over some Sugar in my hand.

I use Fairy Excel type washing up liquid with a little soap powder instead of the sugar.
A little hot water then a good scrub normally does the trick.
If that lot doesn't work, my hands stay dirty till the skin rubs off

I've got about 1.5l of orange Swarfega that was a midnight requisition. When that's gone, I'll buy one of the dry paste type, as they make less mess.
