 my  over 70 license reminder came today. my present one expires expires at midnight 23rd December. however i completed the form online and was informed on completion that i can expect it within 2 weeks.

I've just had to pay to renew mine and it will need renewing again in 18 months. 
I wonder what happens if you're licence expires something like two months before your 70th birthday?

As a diabetic on insulin I have just entered the, usually, long process to renew my 3 year licence applying online.

But at least I do not have to pay for the renewal!

When my mother renewed hers, it took 9 months sat in a public service circular argument.

They wanted to know the name of her consultant (she has MS), she does not have a consultant, apparently an MS nurse is not good enough, so they write to the GP, the GP has no idea and suggests contacting the MS nurse......

Yes. And DVLA haven't got the guts to force them to pass driving tests again either (assuming they ever took one) so they're dawdling around everywhere, 40MPH in a 20, 40 in a 40, 40 in a 60, 40 in a 100.

True. I heard somewhere recently that the DVLA would normally issue something like 4000 HGV licences in January but January this year they issued around 10% of that.
And then people are asking why we have a shortage of truck drivers.
