Lost one panel and a post. The post was already rotten and supported by said panel... which itself was cosmetic as it covered the back of a wall in next doors garden. Both can wait, as have a couple more panels/posts to attend to on the list for warmer weather.

And at least now, I can actually get a fence post in the car without a saw :D

Windmills were generating 42% of our electricity needs this morning, far higher than at any other time. We need a storm Eunice every day.

We're getting 8 or so years from the wooden ones. With the advantage that you can screw the panels in. Prerequisite is that the panels aren't drop in ones.  ;)

Thats quite low, which is no surprise because in these high winds the windmills have to feather the blades and reduce output (to protect them from the gusts)

Surprisingly, the bit of fence that I was expecting to let go, due to a rotten post, is holding up fell (famous last words).

However, the fence between me and my neighbour clearly has 3 failed posts, and if they last another hour, I'm buying a lotto ticket.

Quite low? Wind power only accounted for 24% in 2020

Thats total energy produced over the year, not peak, in theory there is enough to supply almost the entire demand under ideal conditions, last I saw there was over 25GW of installed capability (demand is about 25GW at night and high 30's in the day, so they should be able to hit 60%+ even at Peek load)  :y

I see.
What are ideal conditions, a storm every day?  ;D

According to The Independent, 42% is 'staggering':

Wind energy generated a staggering 42 per cent of all electricity in Great Britain on Friday morning as Storm Eunice battered the coastline.
Millions have been urged to stay at home as the Met Office issued a red "danger to life" warning across parts of the country including London.
But one silver lining from the Eunice's strong winds has been a major surge in electricity generated at wind farms.
National Grid figures reported at 8.30am showed wind as by far the largest electricity source in Great Britain at 42 per cent.
Fossil fuel natural gas was the second biggest generator at 22 per cent, and nuclear third at 15 per cent.
The 42 per cent figure for wind – 14.4 gigawatts in total – compares to the renewable resource generating an average of 19.3 per cent of electricity on average across the year.

So.....I'm staggered

It wasn't so very long ago there was talk of all 'renewables' accounting for only 2-3% of energy needs.
