Cramped ambulances
« on: 18 June 2022, 17:45:45 »

Report from the Bibble that larger members of staff are struggling to fit in new ambos.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cambridgeshire-61847310

I sympathise entirely with them, as a "large" chap whose irregular proportions continue to baffle the most learned of scholars. I have a favoured Traaaaaaansit at work because the seat moves 3 inches further back than the others, and it makes it much nicer for a 12 hour shift. Our older Iveco battle bus is much more cramped (but RWD, so more fun).

However. People rrapping their hands and fingers in the sliding door... That's not the ambulances fault. That's just been tacked on to make them sound even worse. Or do our green clad chums have an exemption for "don't put your fingers where you wouldn't put your cock" (medical needs notwithstanding)?

Notwithstanding that that Stellantis POS design is basically a stylised PSA/Fiat design from the mid nineties and wasn't fit for purpose then...

East of England Ambulance Service Trust has form for poor vehicle choices. They replaced the old Bedford and Ford ambulances with rhd converted GMC 3500 pick up based ones thirty or so years ago and promptly got rid in short order following several serious crashes. (mostly because they weren't designed for the medieval road network that is East Anglia  ::)

The only thing designed for East Anglia's medieval road network is the horse and cart, which wouldn't do much for East of England Ambulance's response times!  ;D

I never knew they converted them to RHD! I remember Northumbria having some sort of GMC American tyoe things before the box Sprinter became the bus of choice...

With the soft American leaf springs I'd imagine people dying of sea sickness/nausea on the way to A&E rather than the heart attacks or strokes that they were being picked up for!  ;D

I remember they were delivered to our local Ambulance station only to find they were too tall to fit into the station  ;D
