could i get more for it in parts??
« on: 10 September 2008, 16:55:02 »

[chose general chat as there's nothing set in stone so figured it doesnt warrant going in the for sale or help section]

i know my car's too good to break but people seem to be put off my car for a number of reasons, one being the obvious that i sympathise with... credit crunch, people having no money!, then there's the LPG not talking to my car properly, then also the reg being march 2001 meaning high tax, lastly, the "too good to be true" price making everyone naturally run away!!

so i get thinking, should i break it? are there enough people in here or scouring ebay wanting parts?

how much would i make from the following:

LPG kit complete with tank
full heated leather
various body panels
headlight washers
3.0v6 engine and autobox with 76k
very tidy well looked after elite alloys on recent tyres
irmscher grille
bose sound system inc sat nav
recent exhaust
boot spoiler

this would get round people who dont want the car cos of high tax, and i'd cash in the remaining tax

what main parts of my car would people not want at all? i.e are worthless?

I would be inclined to remove the LPG system and sell it, or resolve the problems with it. Nothing scares people like unfinished projects. Then see if it'll sell. Be a shame to break the whole car.

Hmmm..... I still think you'd be better spending a bit of time sorting the LPG and then trying to sell it again :y :y :y :y

Guessing, off the top of my head:

LPG kit complete with tank

It's condition is unknown in that it's never worked properly, so peanuts I'm afraid :(

full heated leather

In it's condition, and being facelift - £200

various body panels

Not a lot - bumpers maybe £50 if good. Headlights, etc.

headlight washers

Are they not built into the bumpers on facelifts?

3.0v6 engine and autobox with 76k

AR35 - £80. Engine - £250 on ebay perhaps but you have the hassle of taking it out

very tidy well looked after elite alloys on recent tyres

£200?

irmscher grille

Not a clue - £100??

bose sound system inc sat nav

If it's CID like mine with the headunit and entire system - £300 maybe?

recent exhaust - worthless

It's certainly worth thinking about, in your situation!

If you do break it, I WILL have the LPG kit off you :y

I'd say either fix or remove LPG so you are selling a car with no known problems.. then sell via autotrader or similar.... ebay is not the place to buy or sell cars IMHO .. too many chancers on both sides of the agreement

No its not worth more in parts, not if your looking for £2,000

Better fixing and selling - its for once worth more as a running car.

Thing is - I think his filler is in the rear panel, so removing it would leave a great big hole.

Therefore I don't think removal, and selling as a normal car, is viable :(

given that i'm only asking £2000 for the car it probably is worth more in parts, since i have no time or money to fix it, but i havent got anywhere to store a broken car once it's shed plenty parts, nor do i have the means to remove the engine and box

filler is in the bumper at the back, right in the middle (f***wits that fitted it didnt think about the possibilities of people wanting towbars on their cars)

Should you end up with the kit I have a complete "spare" filler and housing you can have :y :y

I agree with Kevin and Entwoods (particularly re 'trader vs ebay) posts above.   Can you plug the hole in the bumper somehow?

Nice one James.   ;D ;D ;D ;D :y :y :y :y :y

Brilliant way to get cheap parts for your car.

Will have to remember that method.

Shoot it down 1st and offer peanuts later.

Especially when yours needs a new exhaust and the LPG is probably something or nothing.

I'll have the Headunit, display and associated parts and possibly the front bumper if you break it!
