First day away and I’ve already earned myself a probable fine.    We drove to Scarborough for a ride out and on the way back out of town I strayed into a bus lane. Not any old bus lane, a full blown dedicated buses only bus lane. 
I wondered why all of the other vehicles were on the other side of the road island.    Luckily no buses came up behind me so I reversed back and joined the correct lane. The downside is, I expect a fine in the post upon my return home for the original offence and probably a summons for reversing down a bus lane.
Dear Lord, have I become one of those drivers that I used to laugh at and say ‘where’s the ficks that idiot going’. 

Yes, I know exactly where you mean. Only an idiot would drive Easy mistake to make 

Thank you.    I felt an absolute fool for doing it.    The fine doesn’t bother me, I deserve that, but I could do without getting any points for reversing back down it. I believe the bus lane offence is more of a council fine as opposed to a police fine. Oh well, I’ll have to wait and see what arrives.

I am thinking that must have been opposite Weatherspoons and Santander and Nationwide BS on the other. Easily done as you naturally drive on the left as you come down from Alma Square.  I can’t remember if there is a camera there but whatever happened to common sense and letting people off.Motoring certainly isn’t carefree anymore. Let’s hope common sense prevails……….Let us know the outcome.

Bang on Varche, I recall that you’re a local lad to this area originally.    Yep, between Santander and The Lord Rosebery pub, Westborough Road apparently. 
And yes, they most definitely have cameras on.    We went to Scarborough to put some demons to bed, as it’s where I first collapsed when my heart valves failed. At least we drove out with me conscious this time.

A life threatening situation anywhere near Scarborough hospital is not a good idea 

And.....if you take ill in Pickering, Scarborough is the nearest hospital. The ambulance station is at Kirkbymoorside. Good luck, mate

Thank you for the info.    On that fateful day, I insisted that they (family) take me home so they didn’t have so far to travel to visit me.
See, even when I was just hours away from death I was still thinking of my family. What a gent am I.    Luckily my daughter’s driving style is similar to mine so we got back to Stoke Mandeville fairly quickly.

I agree with you on Scarborough hospital. I have spent plenty of time visiting these last five years to last me a lifetime. Give me a Spanish hospital anytime.

My late dad never got over the concept of his generation “ giving” the hospital( bought with funds from the people of Scarborough)  to the nhs and then having to pay to park.

My mother took fatally ill and had to be transferred from Scarborough to Hull for proper treatment.

I managed a trip to Whitby today without breaking the law.    We’re having a run to York tomorrow so I think it’s best if we use Park and Ride to save my nerves lol.

I managed a trip to Whitby today without breaking the law.    We’re having a run to York tomorrow so I think it’s best if we use Park and Ride to save my nerves lol. 

The Park and Ride is pretty good in York, arguably cheaper than parking in the centre if only a couple of you going

All good, we used Monks Cross Park and Ride, did a few hours shopping, spent a fortune, had a decent meal in The Terrace Sports Bar and then back to Park and Ride. As if I hadn’t treated her enough in York, as the bus pulled back in at Monks Cross she spotted that bloody retail park over the road and went there as well.    I can’t lie, that did piss me off.
