Mind you the day started with Mum locking herself out of the house... :-X

It could be worse .... Yesterday, MY Mum handed her's & my Dad's bank card complete with PINs over at the door to scammers because she thought she'd spent the previous hour on the phone to her bank! It was my Dad (that ironically has been recently diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's that smelt a rat & phoned my brother who stopped the cards & informed the police. We told her, as had the police, to keep doors locked ... we called down & walked straight in!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-X :-X :-X
Another problem for everyone else.

I do worry. Fortunately the neighbours are spot on.

Power of attorney is quite a responsibility, but there comes a point...

Obviously notwithstanding the emotional rollercoaster that goes with such a conversation.

Glad you managed to get onto it swiftly, but it doesn't bear thinking about. ;(

I do fear that they'll be back when they think the new cards have arrived. They'd tried to use the card this morning on an Uber app ....

We both do have power of attorney ... both health & wealth ... but she's always right even when you're trying to explain the potential severity of what she did.

There are some evil bastards out there. Preying on the elderly is the lowest of the low.  >:(
I had to fit a key safe at my parents, so that those that should be able to get in, could get in, and those that shouldn’t couldn’t. My Mum was bed bound for the final five’ish years of her life after suffering a stroke, and my Dad was bed bound for around the final year of his life after suffering a fall. It’s not nice being old.  ;(

On a side note, if they have broadband, you could install a Ring/An Other doorbell camera and one of your family be the account holder. You’d get the notifications then so you’d know who was at their door.  :y

You don't think that you're going to have to look after your parents like this.  :-\

When I was a toddler my parents wiped my backside, but I never in my wildest dreams imagined that I’d have to do the same for them sixty years later.  ;(   I had to wash and change them after they’d had an accident, something a son shouldn’t be doing, but it had to be done if it happened between the carers visits. Life was shit (literally) and after a while it nearly broke me.  ;(  My sister bailed on me at every incident/accident, saying she didn’t know how I managed to do it. I did it because I loved them, and it wasn’t their fault, they didn’t want to be like that. My mum was on ‘End of Life’ palliative care and not expected to live out the year. She lived over five years after that.  :)
I was once told, if you do what you can for them while your parents are alive, then you’ve got nothing to be ashamed of when they pass, and that’s what I did.  :y

Two winters ago, rodents got into our hose reel and chewed up the pipe. I could not find a single how to video on the net only plenty of warnings not to attempt diy- presumably a very strong spring inside…..

It is a fancy auto return ,long device from a famous German company. Contacted their Spanish HQ and they said use the agent in Granada. Went there last summer ( for that was when we discovered it was useless) and they advised “ too busy” come back later. Which we did. The repair took months. Since then it has sat indoors well away from any rodents. Installed it today ready to do jet washing and……..it leaks. Presumably from the fancy central universal coupling.

Fortunately I have miles of other cheap hosepipe - not a single cm of which has ever been gnawed.

So tomorrow it is off to see the repair agent again.  What is that I hear you say - good luck?
