I have bitter memories of redundancy...I with four others started a company with an annual turnover budgeted at £60,000 per year. After 18 years, we had reached the golden heights of 12 million pounds a year turnover. However, the two owners sold out to a group of London companies, who after about a year or so, nosedived, took 22 companies with them. At the time, we had 2.5 million pounds worth of orders on our books. However, liquidators were called in and the business wound up. For eighteen years hard work, working all hours, I received the princely sum of £3,750. Eight years later I got a final cheque for £80. Meanwhile, miners were coming out with a fortune in redundancy pay.

The legal minimum is something like a week for every year over 2 years, so Anything over that is a reasonable starting point.

There should also be a provision for retraining costs to enable a transition into other career options. A decent private company worth it's salt should offer that as part of the redundancy package
