Somebody stop me
« on: 15 September 2008, 21:04:27 »

I'm thinking of changing the wife's Vx Meriva for a FRENCH car :o

Citroen C4 Grand Picasso 1.6HDI 7 seater

Why?  Cos I can lease it fully maintained, inc road tax for 3 years at £225pm. No maintenance worries and acres of room for anyone who wants a lift, like visiting parents. 1.6 will be slow but she only has a 1.4 now so no real issue here.

And I can get 5 men inside, 5 kayaks on the roof and bags of room for kit in the back with the rear 2 seats folded flat.

I know someone who has a Picasso. Always in the garage waiting for parts. It wouldn't be so bad that it's just unreliable, but every part it needs (e.g. power steering pump - not an uncommon part) appears to be a 2 week wait with no courtesy car available.

Could be a muppet main dealer, admittedly. This guy doesn't know how to pop the bonnet, but food for thought.

Sold -- mate up the road has two Picassos. One red (hers) one blue (his)  Corny or what???  Anyway, had them a year and a bit with no probs from either (apart from them being french ---- and I have to be careful what I say -- Mrs HC hails from that part of the world ::) )

Thats not too bad......your realisticaly loosing 3-4k a year on a new car depending on the car....plus maintenance and other costs are covered  :y

I had a merc slk on lease once........cost me £500/month........had it for 3 years........lot of dosh........£18k........but a £35k car.....dont think it would have worked out any cheaper buying it outright then selling it after 3 years  :-/

I can get it for £200pm inc road tax - non maintained.

I've lost £5k on the Meriva in 3 years and that was only £8500 6m old.

This is a new car £18k & epic in size.  Drives like a blancmange with the comfort of a 1970's pub according to reviews - just like my Omega  ;)

2.2's build for comfort - not for speed  :y

Disagree, loads of driver space and comfortable, thogh seats are hard, compared to the Omega. 'Sit up and Beg' or 'Forward Control' type of driving position, and that front end is sooooo far away. :o

Various seat combinations, my daughter likes the middle seats flat and to use the rear seat, that is 'Limo' version ::) or middle rear seat flat to play with her toys on or the dvd player etc. ;D ;D ;D
Never had any problems, got it new in august last year and have done about 15000 miles. :y

I like the idea of Limo mode  :y

I also like the idea of putting my 2 year old in the rear seats and turning up the CD in the front. 8-)

people knock Citroen for being very French in their design, personally i think that is what makes them stand out.....

I have had a number of Citroens, they give no more problems that any other car, their build quality is as good as anything else you can get in its market sector and the they do represent excellent value for money.....

I was looking at the Citroen C5 as a replacement to the mig when the time is right, a comfy french exec saloon with loads of toys and cost peanuts in the secondhand market place  :y

I sometimes think it is 'all the toys' that put people off, all those electrics, it even has an electric handbrake ::) a colum gear leaver about 4 inches long and paddle change as well, if you want. Mine cn be used as full auto or use the paddles, no clutch :y
However all modern cars heading that way, everything connected to a computer with miles and miles of wiring. :(
