Is it still the tyres that need running in for the first 600 miles? ???
Just watch it for the first 5 miles or so, whilst the release agent comes off, they can be a little more slippery.  Though unless you're driving towards the limit, you prob won't notice.

The last 5 miles of the old tyres on the way to the depot are always far more hazardous, I find. :-X

In 84 I bought a brand new Astra GTE did the 1st 500 carefully and had the oil changed an checked then just drove it like i stole it.  I  sent it in for a service they asked what I had done to it tuning wise because it was quicker than standard. ::)

In summary, as my old mate Johnty (RIP) used to say:

"Build them well, then give 'em hell". ;D

I wouldn't be happy if a dealer told me that. I'd want to know how they knew.

I have just recalled that in about 1973 one of my young colleagues collected his brand new Ford Escorts Mk1, the same as I had as it was the standard issue to us juniors.

He apparently went on, I think the M1, and hammered it for many miles, ignoring the usual running in period then common to all new cars.  At the end of which the engine was wrecked!! :o :o :o

He just about kept his job as the managers gave him the benefit of being young..................................stupid, wreckless, and many other expletives!! ;D ;D

After needing a new engine in a 1.8 Astra, due to finding 1st gear at about 60-70mph

That must have been exciting....was there a loud bang? Years ago a girlfriend driving my car managed to put it in second when driving on the motorway. The rev counter went off the end but the engine survived - phew. I wasn't very happy though  >:(
One of my ex plod Omegas had a receipt for a new complete engine after a similar 'incident' mid pursuit... The associated report and workshop sheet was an amusing read.

Years ago I changed from 4th to third instead of fifth in one of my Evos at over 100 mph it blew bits of piston rings out of the exhaust😵‍💫 that engine was finished.
