Hmmm.... I may have bought alot of expense and aggro with this BMW.....

It's a bit smoky when driven hard and sometimes there's a puff of smoke when started from dead cold in the morning.
The fella I bought it from told me that it had been smoky and the EGR had been deleted and it had been 'chipped' and that had sorted it. There was no evidence of smoke when I went to see it and test drove it.

Today I took it to the local BMW specialists for them to check it out and they think that as well as the EGR delete, the DPF has been tampered with/gutted/or partially gutted as they found the exhaust back pressure was showing negative values (-4 mbar) when positive values are expected.
They said that its best to live with it as it is, but it may or may not pass an MOT and if it fails, it will mean a new DPF, possibly a new EGR and coded back to stock. Ouch!
I've checked the emissions test printout from the last two MOTs and they have very different readings , but I don't know when the EGR was deleted and possibly the DPF tampered with.

On the upside I guess I don't have to worry about the DPF clogging up. Every silver lining!

Thoughts please?
