Travelodge are even worse than a hovel.

I don't mind a Travelodge.    I stayed in a Days Inn at a services on the M6 recently and thought that was OK as well. 

Maybe I'm just easily pleased!

Essex Chief Constable has held a news conference where he denied that Police had escorted anyone to the protests.
He said they had escorted some people away from the protest for their own safety.
If this is proved to be untrue I dont see how he could stay in his job.
No doubt the truth will come out at some point. It almost always does.

He added: “The issue is not about my resignation. The issue is about an effective police operation that keeps the communities of Epping safe.”

Here's the thing, that statement has just ensured that Essex Police will have zero public trust and that's not going to be good for anyone on the force front line or in Essex as a whole.

Realistically the difference between a 5* and a 2/3* is, with some exceptions, is if the receptionist is one for the wank bank.

You have that bass ackwards. The quality of the receptionist is a measure of a good hotel not the star rating

Obviously the scale of acceptable standards depends on the country... Lagos for example, clear and hot water and no power cuts whilst the lights are on is about all you can hope for...

That said, I can recommend avoiding the Travelodge at Heston Westbound even if the parking is free

The thing with services hotels is that you're stuck with crappy expensive services food. 

The one I stayed in recently had a Maccas, Costa and WH Smiths. The silver lining was that I bought a couple of tinnies and a bar of chocolate in WHS to take back to my room after I had my BigMac!

The last time I frequented a Travelodge I found pubic hair on the sheets that was not mine.

I complained and the skanky hag at reception suggested I had placed the 'short and curly' there myself in order to get a refund.

The thing with services hotels is that you're stuck with crappy expensive services food. 

And none of the motorway services hotels are allowed to do in-hotel food. And a bit like airport hotels, don't expect to get great sleep, as people banging cases up and down the corridor all night, and generally in noisy environments.

Not that the usual Travelodge food is great, its more of your estate pub type food, but fortunately at estate pub type prices.  Adequate is the term I'd use.
