Trying to keep myself ‘purposeful’
« on: Yesterday at 15:33:43 »

Used the old Kenwood Chef A901E to knead some dough the other day and noticed it smoking like a docker and grinding its gears.

As the topic suggests I had a go at it. For the sake of £6.50 for new snubber R/C components and a suppression cap, some Duckhams grease and a couple of hours ‘enjoyment’, it’s now sweet as a nut. So substantially built too. Not like a modern appliance that’s pressed and snapped together so it busts as soon as you look at it.

And it’s over 40 years old. FORTY!!

Before...

After...

P.S. Admins, is there a problem with the Notify function on the forum? Most likely it's just me, but I used to get topic and board notifications no problem.

Now I get none. I’ve checked all my profile settings and all looks good but just now I looked on the forum and there were new posts on boards I was watching but I got no pings…

There is a certain satisfaction to be had from getting old appliances working again...... like our boiler from 1999.

Make do and mend was the slogan during WW2. :)

I believe James May is into this sort of thing.

I have an old Kenwood mixer of similar vintage tucked away somewhere that was my Mum's. It's a hefty old thing and weighs a tonne!  :)

There's probably only you and, maybe, two others on here that remember WW2.

The Boer war would have been the conflict of your youth, even though you'd only have  been a nipper at the time.  :)

Mrs Opti has a Singer sewing machine from around 1930. I t does the job it was intended for perfectly well and is built to last at least another 100 years.

In that case, SWMBO, just after the ww2 vintage, needs a refurbishment ;)

Surprised you've still got the ceramic mixing bowl in one piece. Ours broke years ago. Bought two Stainless bowls to replace it, and still got them.

When you look at the build quality they could easily survive a nuclear war.

"They don't make them like they used to".......obviously this does not apply to the shoddy crap that BL produced in the seventies, when not on strike. >:D

That looks suspiciously like a kitchen appliance, thus womens' work.

With respect Yer Onner, and in my defence, this is a metal machine containing rotating parts, gears and grease, and powered by mains electricity. Therefore I propose that it should belong in MY domain.

Take no notice of Jaime. I've heard rumours that Putin has got pictures of him in an apron and pink marigolds.  :-X

At a push, repairing it could almost be a blue job.  Testing it works is definitely a pink job.
