Audi A6 Allroad questions
« on: Today at 11:30:11 »

Hi

Bought myself a 63 plate Audi A6 Allroad BiTd as a replacement for the CRV due to buying a heavier caravan.
Had my pants royally pulled down but fingers crossed and 3 grand later, things are looking better  :)

Right, a couple of questions if anybody can help ?

Firstly, when I bought it you could chose the ride Hight between 5 settings manually OR it would switch itself between 2 and 1 depending on speed.
1 - Dynamic (sat very low down)
2 - Comfort (normal day to day)
3 and 4 - higher still.
5 - Offroad ( about 6 inches higher then 2)

Short version - the cars gearbox packed up within 3 days and it took me 7 weeks of legal letters for them to pick it up and a further 3 1/2 months for them to supposingly fix it.

Since it came back, I have lost access to position 3 and 4.
Other then that, it drives fine.
It is a older version of the MMI if that makes sense.

Any idea's ?

2nd question ..........   As some may remember, I do love a great sounding sound system in my cars.
This car (been a bit poverty spec) doesn't have the Bose system fitted so no amp in the near side storage in the boot.
Currently it has speakers in all 4 doors and a sub alongside the spare wheel.
I've got some very nice Focal components and amp in the CRV which i'm looking to fit.

Are all speakers fed from the head unit in the dashboard or it they a poverty spec amp hidden somewhere I cant find I can confirm that the sub is fed by a 2 wire loom so would think it goes to the front.

Any help appreciated  :)

Given Bose do not make automotive audio systems, and that the Bose system will be little more than an amp, maybe different speakers, and 'Bose approved' tuning file, you won't be missing much (they are also probably the worst of the badged systems out there).

I would be moving your existing solution over (assuming the speakers fit!), you should be pretty safe using the speaker level feeds

Have you got access to VCDS (VAG-COM Diagnostic System) or OBDeleven?  This would allow you to scan the ‘Level Control Module’ for any fault codes, and to check/recalibrate the level sensors.

I’m guessing that if the gearbox was done under warranty/goodwill, the extra 3 grand was for them to do the cam chain as a precaution while the gearbox was removed.  :-\  With the gearbox removed but with the engine still in place, it’s a shit job due to poor access and is very labour intensive. To remove the engine and gearbox, then separate them to gain access to the 4 chains and guides is also very labour intensive but access is good. Either way, it’s a bloody expensive job, around £3K at an Indy and £4K at a main dealership.  :o
