Actually, driving my XJ and seeing how reliable it was compared to his brand new S Class probably was enough for that Eureka moment ;D

Some of the downsides of owning a recent-ish Jag is lack of information online, with many forums just full of idiots wanting to talk about which polish is better, and anything mechanical must be left to dealers.

Some parts are ridiculously expensive with JLR putting crazy markups on.  This is something they need to address.  That said I know BMW have done similar lately, Lexus have always been like that. MB are usually pretty good, certainly for service type items :y

I don’t get much proper sleep these days so I decided to have an early hours peruse through the TOPIx schematics for a Jaguar XJ X351 All Engine Variants that someone had kindly left online. I was looking to see if there was more than one 150A fuse in the battery +ve supply line but when I’d finished I concluded that you have far too many gadgets in your car and the schematics had given me a headache.  ::) ;D

Those electric heaters are there for two reason

1) To give faster cabin heat as the diesel engines take a while to warm up
2) To provide a bit of extra load to the diesel engine, via the alternator, to heat it up a bit quicker.

I would just do a quick resistance measurement across the two large heater terminals, assuming you can be arsed. ;D

Bit of research suggests its often the PCB attached to it that fails.  Either way, it's a significantly challenging to get to as far as I can gather.  TOPix not overly helpful.
