It's emerged today that Peter Mandelson failed the security vetting to be our man in DC, but Starmer and Lammy appointed him anyway.

No 10 are claiming that Starmer and Lammy weren't told that he hadn't passed the vetting, which in my view simply isn't credible.

Hard to see how Starmer can survive this in light of his claims that due process was followed.

Surely, if he failed DV, that would go back to whoever was employing him - the PM in this case - the same as any other company requiring DV/SC etc

Yes Lammy was Foreign Secretary at the time, so he must have been told by his team that Mandelson had failed the security vetting.

Mandelson was a political appointment, rather than the usual career diplomat so he was Starmer and Lammy's man.

They must have known!

It seems so long ago since Boris was forced to resign when he bullshitted about a junior minister pinching some blokes arse in a club. 

According to the Leader of the Opposition of the time, one Sir Keir Starmer QC, misleading Parliament is a resignation matter.

I think you need to stop taking the circus that is Westminster too seriously. Politics has been like a tv comedy for quite a few years now. Lying and a lack of honour are just everyday occurrences now.

Starmer has just thrown Ollie Robins under the bus to try and save his own skin.
Couldnt have happened to a nicer bloke* but thats not really the point.
Hopefully it wont save Starmer, but then again, when you thinkof the possible replacements !

For negotiating Theresa May's terrible Brexit deal he got a Knighthood and reportedly a £20,000 bonus, plus whatever contractual payout he got when he resigned and trotted off to Goldman Sachs. 

I wonder how much taxpayers cash he will trouser this time?

Just watched footage of Starmer speaking in February, when he said on camera that Mandelson had been been subject to stringent security clearance by the security services and he had passed the clearance.
Its difficult to see how he can stay in his job, but thats been said before.
