Older V6's weren't that quick. It's just the suspension, brakes and steering were so shit that it felt like you were going plenty fast enough.

A select few of us know, the 2.2 petrol is really the superior engine.  It does a dead V6 very well. 

Interesting project, I'd keep it all as is and just accept the power that it gives. Given lack of MPV's around now, suspect many might want it as a family car!

Not sure I could live with a V6 fuel usage at todays prices though, that said I don't think I could live with any combustion fuel car.

Yes but now I can nearly "fill up" for not much more than the cost of a single litre of petrol.

My Desmond Sport was last MoTd in 2020 with 38k on it. Hopefully it went to the Emerald Isle and is still going strong rather than being scrapped...

Was mint apart from the tree sap damage from being parked under a tree for a year before I bought it.

My brother-in-law owned a MK2 Granada 2.8 Ghia X and when the *gearbox started playing up* I took it to an auto gearbox specialist. The guy, without taking any notice of what model it was, test drove it and commented that it was flat for a 2.3. I said it's worse than that, it's actually a 2.8.

The point being nothing has changed in those few months, so you *could*, and have proven, would live with it

EV owners will slowly start to get hammered, and that is only just starting.  Ultimately, the government needs a set amount of money from road users.  Any supposed green initiates around EV are just lip service.

It's more (for at least now) the change it means in daily life. I now can for example, think nothing of driving 1.5hrs each way to find a nice abandoned railway to take the kids cycling. It will cost me no more than £2.50 to do this.

Before, I would think twice, as that could cost £60+ in fuel.

My salary running 3 kids, wife, 2x cars, mortgage, school clubs etc, thanks to ever mounting costs mean things are more and more stretched. This ~£60 saving for a weekend trip idea means quite a bit.

Costs will of course go up, but for now it's making much sense for me. My fuel bill instead of being ~£275 per month is now about £12!

Zero maintenance is also a bonus.

I see this a bit like the shift to LPG, as soon as we converted it was a sin to run on petrol. LPG all the way, half the price. Why run on petrol!

Now there is no LPG anywhere nothing we would want to convert either.

At the moment EV running is cheap, things will catch up for sure, I've not visited a petrol station in 6 months. The Government needs that money to give away to those folk who cannot be bothered to work. But for now, I'll take these savings and I'm a fully onboard with EV. So much so if MrsT's bus died, I'm ordering a second EV.

Just as well with three youngsters in the back. No fancy £500 kiddie seats and Isofix points back then.
