My son (lives in California) had a voicemail from dealership where he bought his current car from saying that as it's 11 months since he bought it he might want to book it in for a service or at least for an oil and filter change. The car he bought/owns is a Mustang Mach E EV!!

First planned service on the i4 M60 is 20,000 or 2 years, which ever is first. Think I'll be hitting the 20k first at this rate.

That's interesting as the iX is (I assume) 2yrs regardless of mileage. Certainly the c50K we did in it in 2 yrs didn't trigger a warning for any service - other than a tyre inspection. The only reminder we got was when it was coming up to its second birthday.

Pretty stupid in my view: I had to remove the cabin filter and bin it on a road trip just before its service as it had got so clogged the car couldn't effectively cool the cabin  - so glad they've corrected it.

They still need servicing, its only the motor that different

Wont need an *oil & filter change though.
Not much servicing ( as we understand it) required either.

Apart from reduction gear oil but that wont need changing after 11 months.

BMW EV’s should be running a Condition Based Service system, which should have called it in for service much earlier with that mileage. Standard service interval would be two years. I wonder why c50K miles in two years didn’t trigger that to be called in earlier. 
That means that when it’s returned after the lease period and goes up for resale, it would show the first service at over 50K miles.    I hope you have no come-backs as it’s not your fault if it hasn’t flagged up, but I can’t see them being happy with that.

I thought the same, but BMW Shrewsbury didn't seem to bat an eye at the mileage or suggest anything was amiss. Then again, *something* wasn't setup correctly as it had only been with us about 2 weeks when it thought it needed an MOT 

TBF I have been pretty diligent, its asked for a 'tyre service' about every 10k miles and I've phoned the lease company every time and been told that a recent visit to Kwiksh!t meant I didn't need to book it in. Its been to them approximately once every 5-6 months to have various punctures repaired  .

I also haven't seen it in the last 3 weeks due to it being in the crash repair centre following SWMBO's little whoopsie

On our new purchase (hopefully a long term keeper), I will be doing as a minimum:

Reduction gear oil every 5yrs/50k
Coolant - every 5yrs/50k

Brake fluid - every 2yrs/20k
Brake strip and clean up - every 2yrs/20k

Cabin filter every 20k/2yrs
New 12v battery every 5yrs (they're sensitive apparently  )
Air con regas every 4yrs or so

Not maintenance free, but hardly much of a chore either

I'm fairly certain that the CBS system should have shown that it was due a service way before two years at that mileage. The brake fluid flush and change, plus the cabin filter would have been done around the 20K mark then.

I'm sure that you're already aware of this, but all body repairs have to be carried out by an authorised BMW body repair place. They give you a certificate of repair which should be put in the glove box to produce if questioned on any warranty issues. A few of our guys fell foul of that by having their own local body shop carry out the repairs, and upon returning the vehicle they got a pretty hefty penalty.

I should clarify, this clause is aimed at paint correction/rust warranty claims, and doesn't affect the mechanical warranty.

Don't really understand why, but I seem to be replacing them far more often over the past 3 or 4 years.


That said, now they have just completed the harvest here, there is a decent layer of dust everywhere

I need to do those on all our cars next time I service them.... Not exactly cheap are they!
