Vauxhall airbag recall
« on: 15 August 2026, 13:27:29 »

Just received a letter this morning regarding the Takata drivers airbag on my Vectra C. Appears that over time, the chemicals in the airbag degrade and could split on deployment and possibly cause an injury. Will have to register with Vauxhall and they will fit a new bag FOC. Seeing how many cars these bags are fitted in, i wonder how long it will take to get it done?
Anyone else on here received a similar letter?

Yes for the Alabama Mumsybus when I had it.

Be fair to say that a significant number of different vehicles have Takata airbags fitted and eventually they'll all be tested.

Yes I had a letter from Ford about 3 years ago inviting me to take my Mondeo into a dealership so they could tinker with the airbag.  :y

It was easy. I phoned the Ford dealer in Exeter, they knew all about it and booked it in the following week.

It took about an hour, I sat in the swanky dealership and drank free coffee and sat in a new Ranger pickup.  :)

The only thing missing was a receptionist with nice airbags, but I guess you have to go to Jaaag for that sort of thing!  ;D

I've got two for the Merc, every year for the past 4 years.

On the Darwinian principal that I believe all air bags should be replaced by 12 gauge shotguns aimed at the occupants of the car, I've ignored them all.

That's fine if you have no intention of selling your car, but recalls show up on the MOT history site and potential buyers might be put off, if you decide to sell it.  ;)

Anyhow, I believe the takarta airbag does a passable impression of a 12 bore.

One of my recalls is for the PAX side, t'other is for the drivers. Don't know how to get them to do one without the other.

Plus, IMV people are more likely to drive safely/sensibly if they know their loved ones in the PAX seats are going to get their heads blown off if the driver makes a poor mistake. Perhaps delay the drivers shotgun by a second or three so the driver gets to appreciate the depths of their stupidity, before joining their loved ones in the ever-after.

Doesn't account for the stupidity of other people no matter how noble the idea might seem.

Personally I would get them done because it's only a matter of time before Insurers stick their oar in and refuse to insure anything with an outstanding recall. ;)
