Fan stays on 2.6
« on: 29 August 2026, 06:08:27 »

Hi

My 2.6, which I currently have off road just now but I run it fairly regularly round my yard. I noticed the other day that the single fan closest to the engine is always on. Realise this could be a sensor or something. It never used to do this only kick in when it got too hot as it should. Engine and cooling system always kept in GC, had new sensors and stat / oil cooler and flush a couple of years ago. I didn't notice if it was on from the get go only when I was poking about under the hood.

Thanks

Andy

from how i underdtand it there are two possibilries .
either the relay is stuck on or one of the the radiator control switches is faulty .
if the relay clicks as and when when the fan starts running then it would point to one of the radiator switches . someone may be able to be more presise but unplugging them one at a time should show which one

Thanks cam in head, I'll have a look at he switches, granted they were changed to new ones only a few years ago.

Worth checking if it only does it with the climate on. A lot of cars run one fan whenever the aircon is on, even with ECON off it can kick in. If it runs with everything off, swap the fan relay with an identical one from the box and see if it stops. A relay with welded contacts will keep it running forever. Last thing is the temp sender wiring. If the ECU loses the coolant temp signal it usually runs the fan as a failsafe, so a quick read with "My Naff Code Reader" or a Tech2 would tell you if it's logging a sensor fault even with new sensors fitted.

Your curiosity is impressive, but I would urge you to read the FAQs and Help/Maintenance sections as they are a pretty definitive source of Omega B information.
