December 2025 I received my BMW i4 M60, I've actually given this one a name, I don't always name my cars. My old 2.2 was trusty steed as it just fitted it's name and grew into it over my long ownership. The Zafira Tourer SRi became the Daddy Bus.
My blue F36 435i Grand Coupe never really had a name, nor did the VW CC I had or the temp Volvo banger.
The i4 though quickly had the name Red Devil. As it's Red and errr a bit of Devil.
Also a little I like WW2 history, so know the term from that.
What's to report? Well I'm converted.
It's fast, really really fast, any time any speed it just demolishes anything with it's 600bhp. I deploy the power all the time, unlike a petrol or diesel where mechanical sympathy comes into play. Along with the very low mpg impact and thus impact on your wallet.
The EV though, drive it fast all the time as it really does not matter.
It's also comfy, running on 18's with a thick sidewall + adaptive suspension means it rides really well. It's quiet as well, not only as EV being in traffic but at BMW lane 3 speeds it's a very comfortable quiet place to be.
I plug it in every night and it's charged in the morning to 80% and in the nearly one year I've charged away from home just a couple of times. Mainly on runs to Wales. That is seamless as well, just plug it in at an Ionity charger which I use. That's it. No app, no fuss, it connects to my account, just plug it in, charge, unplug and go.
Remote Heating and cooling as been a bit of a game changer. When I received it, leaving the house on a frosty morning and the car is already toasty warm is lovely. But in the summer we've had the remote cooling was a real game changer as well. Out shopping with the wife/kids, start to think about leaving and the car has been baking in a car park. Remote cool, come back to the car like a fridge. None of that open the windows, vent the air, close, let the AC fight the hot plastic of the dash etc. Just arrive to car already ice cold and off you go. Yes combustion engine cars can do this, but EV just turn it on 30 mins before no engine running, no waste of fuel. Works really well.
Only down side I really notice day to day, is the turning circle, it feels rather poor. Even compared to the old Daddy bus. Not sure if it's just me but feels like I have to take extra car and it won't turn quite as tight as the old 435i F36 I had.
Cost wise, it's currently costing me ~ £3 to fill it up from 0% to 100%.(assume 10% in loss rate)
I pay 3.5p per kWh to feed the Red Devil at any point during the day. I just set it to be at 80% the next day, Octopus figure it all out. Never had an issue.
Based on 3.5 pence and 10,000 miles, and average of say 3.5 miles per kWH it's cost me around ~£100 / £110 to do that 10k miles.
Seen 4.5 miles kWh on a run to work in the summer. Not bad for a dual motor and non-ground up EV.
We have moved away from LEX at work as an EV provider now, to Tusker. But the car remains until the end of my scheme, this time next year though will be considering what to replace it with. Given the size the kids are getting maybe an ID Buzz next!
