I have managed to do the door cards and the rear seat and it is looking quite nice!

Got stuck on the front seat as the size torx I need just happens to be the one missing from my set (quick trip to may dad tomorrow to get one)

The question is

Do i need to disconnect battery etc or can i just take the seats out without the airbag going off?

Disconnect the battery to be on the safe side. Unklikely you'll set it off but you could easily trigger the warning light.

disconnect battery, and leave it for a few mins. This allows the SRS to discharge...

Also, do not turn ignition back on until seats fully wired up - else it will be £45 to your dealer to switch off airbag light...

Sounds like a money saving plan. Will make sure I leave for a while and double check everything twice before starting it up again

Thanks for the offer, I am ok with the seats cos it isn't mechanical as just bolts and electrics and I should be OK with that (probably speaking to soon though)

I am not sure why I fear the engine bay so much, I think I just don't want oil on mya hands and clothes

I used to get my hands caked in oil, but now I am really careful and wear rubber gloves before I even open a bonnet.

Its not good for you to keep getting hands covered.

Thanks mate! That was my last excuse and you just blew it away. Better stand by for some rescue missions if I start "playing" under the bonnet.

go for nitrile gloves - £7 or £8 for 100, but they don't make your hands smell and last a lot longer as they're stronger, especially if you're cleaning out the breathers ...

Followed all the guidelines for dis connecting battery, checking all wires etc but still got airbag warning light on. Will pop into VX on Tuesday for them to re set it (hopefully that is all it needs)

Once fitted I gave it all a once over with wax that I normally use on my motorcycle leathers. It came up a treat

Just a thought re your airbag light. Did your old seats have the side airbags? If so your leather looks to be from a pre facelift and won't have the side bags which would be the cause of the airbag lights.
I believe it's been mentioned you can dummy the system into thinking its connected with some resistors but I'm afraid I can't remember any details. I'm sure one of the experts will be along shortly to help.

The last seats had airbags (year 2000) facelift

Leather set from a 2003 and does have side airbags
 
All the connectors were exactly the same and undamaged so I am hoping it just needs a quick reset

Yes, but that may mean there is a bigger problem.

When I went into VX today at 12:55 and they shut as 13:00 I said I wanted the airbag reset they said it was a 2 minute job but would have to charge me minimum of 30mins. I agreed to come back on Tuesday morning

So: If I am paying for 30 mins I want to use it. What else shall I get them to check in the remaining 28 mins?
