Oh dear you don't have much luck with TVs, I'd sell you mine but it would blow up as soon as it entered your house
Does seem to be issues with every tv i have bought for living room since I moved here.

Sony were the worse - the product was crap, their engineers said that was as good as it gets.

Dell were the best - helpful, responsible. A good set as well, when it worked, but had an annoying and frequent software issue on the freeview tuner.

Samsung - its brilliant when it works, which it does most of the time, but Samsung are annoyingly difficult and 'corporate' to deal with.  For instance, I am waiting a callback from an Escalation Manager (little more than a call centre op), but they can't say when or even if that callback will happen.

 :)

Yeah, that's not a bad idea. Write to the dealer highlighting the history and give them a month to give you a new TV or you go to the small claims court.

  Hi TB,
If i were you I'de take the TV back to the shop and stand outside with it with a sign saying don't buy here if you want to end up standing here like me when your goods go wrong!!! >:(

IMO they were supplied the TV by Samsung so should honour your purchase and give you a replacement and sort out the legalities and who's at fault later, after all your the customer so it's you who should be kept happy and not some pratt sitting at a adding machine >:( >:( >:(.

I understand why they have struggled to fix, as it is a pesky intermittent bugger, normally only apparent if I've been away a few days.

Today is a new thing, as haven't been able to use all day.

To my not particularly expert eye, its the actual TFT screen thats f***ed. The actual driver fets on the glass panel are stuffed causing the vertical lines, and the split screen is the main horz drivers that are stuffed. This can't be repaired, the only solution is to replace the screen. That's why they don't want to do it, and are wasting time till the garantee runs out, as that's the most expensive part, and its almost cheaper to give you a new set. Complain to the highest authority about unfit goods.

You paid for a tv, that dont look much like a tv to me. Your entitled to a replacement or a refund. End of.
I wont mention that, having seen the picture on my mates and brother inlaws very similar looking shamshite models, you have bought the wrong tv! Your should have got a pioneer, i dont care about the figures on paper and the million to one contrast ratio. I wont mention all that koz that wont help, nor will pointing out that it has a very gay blue led on the  power button. All of that will only rub in the fact that your purchase has failed. So i wont go into it, no, wont mention it at all... Or ask why on earth you got one of those in the first place. That wont help either.
Maybe you could claim on the house insurance and get proper panel, accidental damage? Also i think the credit card thing would be worth a phone call if you can remember which one it was. Also, as mentioned, the fault started long ago and the warranty about to run out does not come into it, although they will try to get out of it. The fault and their failure to rectify runs from the date you informed them of it. They obviously have not finished the job, intermitent or otherwise. I think that it has finally failed completely can only help your case, and in that sense is probably a blessing.
Best of luck with gay tv.  ;)

Do not accpet them arsing you around. You have a contract with this retailer and they have supplied you with defective goods. Despite this you have allowed them time to attempt repairs on the unit which to date has been unsatisfactory.

Go to your Citizens Advice Bureau and take your case to the small claims court. Keep everything in writing now and well documented. Just because Samsung won't replace doesn't mean the retailer shouldn't. They have your money.

And don't forget to claim compensation for the disruption caused.

Agree with all that's been said I think you've been fair enough with them it's time to sort it out. I beleive writing is better than phone calls and keep the original send the  copy. Lizzie hit the nail on the head "not of merchantable quality," you buy something to full fill that function, Trading Std's etc hit them with the lot. Its a common thread in society everyone just wants to pass the buck.  The device should be replaced.
All the best.

As Pete Elite said earlier , standing outside the shop telling everyone how crap they are seems to work . I tried this with a bike I bought my son a few years ago .He'd had it about a month and the front forks came out of the housing , chucking him onto the road (luckily he was ok). I took it back and they said they'd repair it , so I said it was dangerous and I wanted my money back .  They refused so I stood outside and after about 15 mins they took me in the office and gave me a new raleigh instead .(which is probably what I should have bought in the 1st place)
They don't seem to like the bad publicity , especially at the moment .

BeyondTV are an internet outlet, based in Blackpool.  Unlikely to make a difference...

Aah , sorry , at my age I still tend to think of a "shop" as a big thing with a glass front .

Yes those places where there are human beings to talk to and assist (well usualy!!) your efforts to purchase, and you can pay in cash without any private information being parted with.  Also you will usually find them again if you have a problem; take action to get satisfaction, and even hand deliver legal letters to lay claim.

I worked for almost 40 years in those, and that is why I rarely use the internet; don't trust it and never will!! :D :D ;)
