Project - change of plan?
« on: 17 December 2006, 11:06:21 »

Can't sort out the problem with these stupid bloody electrics on the project car. Fed up of working on cars with such crap electrics, fed up about going on about the same thing, left with nothing left to try, giving up.

So I wanna go back to my original plan, of doing something crazy.

I've researched with VOSA, and if I fit an engine that's pre-1992, I won't have to meet strict emissions criteria if I put it in a later car.

Question: What huge (or big) Vx carb/dizzy engines are out there that would fit onto the omega engine mounts, and mate with the Ar25/35 gearbox? A straight 6 would be cool!!

What electrics does the Auto gearbox in the omega need to run, what does it rely on from the engine ECU, and would it function in any way with a mechanical (rather than electrical) engine in the car?

It must NOT be a fuel injected engine (or easily converted for a carb) and must have a dizzy/coil ignition arrangement.
I really don't know what's out there.

I'm only going to scrap this car now I can't get it going, so we want to have a laugh and do something daft with it!

Not sure if it's even possible, depending on what's out there.

Would a Nova 1.2 engine fit?

It would leave you plenty of room in the engine bay to work on it

insurance hassles, and heavier engine affecting handling may need to be considered as well?

Insurance - not a problem, I've got 5 years NCD.

Handling - I'll worry about that when it moves!!

Hmm.. nova 1.2.. would it move? Lol

My biggest question is what engines are out there that would pop into the engine bay, and mate with the box.

And also, whether the autobox would work without an engine ECU being in place!

omegatoy here fitted the complete parts of a Lotus Carlton, engine, gearbox, axels the lot.

He has some funny storys about that too, jaw dropping BWM M5 owners  ;D

You could put in the 3.0 24 Straight 6 from a Senny, but not much point really?

C30SE (24v Senator engine) has a distributor, but no carbs (thank god!)

I would just buy a 24v Senator though as a cheap winter runner (Mine and Marks old one is on ebay right now! ;))
Everyone should own one at some time! :)

This is the only red Senator I can find on eBay and it's in Derbyshire. I've got a feeling it may not be Dave's/Mark's old one though. I hope not, the seller states they are moving to America  :-/

That is our old one. :)

The seller is the person who bought it off me, and she is indeed American.

Average was 30mpg across most of the journey, quite amazing really!

Oh and this one has been "chipped" so the pick up over 4k rpm is rather impressive!

A good solid car that just needs a couple of little issues sorting.

I reckon it will go for £200 ish...
