Erratic dashboard display
« on: 19 December 2006, 12:32:45 »

Merry Christmas to all

I have a slight problem any ideas anyone.

My display has gone nuts  ::)
When i start the car it goes through all the normal display, very fast i must say.
Then its pot luck where it stops, EG Coming home from the hospital this morning it stayed on outside temp.

The display is perfect no missing pixels but i cannot change it from what ever it stops on.
No warnings showing. It does on times warn of washer fluid level, even auto box once or twice but the car is working fine at the moment.

My question is. Should i kick it. swear at it, ignore it or just get drunk so i wont be able to see the display. not that i would drink and drive it just means i wont be able to walk to the car to look at the display.
Any ideas, answers on a postcard please.

Thanks in advance.
Spongebob. :o

Assuming it's the MID, remove the instrument panel and check/clean the MID multiplug connector. The problem could be internal though, in which case you can try looking for a second hand one (and get TheBoy to calibrate it with his tech2...)

What about the control button on the wiper stalk?  If thats jammed in, would it cause the display to cycle through its options?

Yep...as a test, disconnect the small plug at the base of the wiper stalk that controls the display (its seperate to the main connector that does the wipers etc)

Yes i though about the wiper stalk. Been rattling it a few times but still the same. Just got back from another journey this time i had the stop watch displayed all the time.

Will have a look at it when i have the time, perhaps as you said the wiper stalk first.

Still it gives me something to moan about. I have at last got a good excuse to moan.

That will shut her up for a change..Ha ha.

Cheers guys. ::)
