Back on topic :D..........my senator had terminal rot, just like almost every senator ever made,so I bought an omega as the next best thing, which is what it is imo.

And looking at various Omegas, they're only marginally better, rust at the top of doors, rust on the doors themselves, door check straps pulling through.....

senators were much worse ,usually started around rear wheel arches and over a period of a couple of years the bit behind the driver would almost disappear. :'( :D

I've had two of them, and I still wouldn't say much worse. I have seen ... or should be NOT seen the rear arches of a Senator though.  ;)
Omega's have probably spent more time at the side of the raod though waiting for crappy sensors & DIS packs to be sorted out, so haven't seen as much salt on the road.  ;D  ;D  ;D

maybe my senator was worse than average and omega better than average :-/
I dont think I have seen an omega with really serious structural rot as yet. mine has a little spot on one rear door ,but seems ok otherwise.

i thought you were going to say something along the lines of speeding motorists that pc plod can give it some poke and catch up in no time and all being nice and comfy in that big arm chair and a mug of coffee in the other hand whilst driving in an auto because you really do only need one hand! :P

i do between 30 and 40k miles a year, i want something that has a degree of comfort that doesn't cost the earth to buy.
By the time i finish with my cars they are mega mileage, so spending anything more that a couple of grand on a car is ideal for me...........

all my old big vauxhalls had their faults, ventura FD with flitch plate rot & leaking screen, royales on the suspension tops, as did the monzas as well as rusting metal sunroof panels, this is my first miggy & so far its been an education [as some people will verify] to say the least, but love the car to bits, my mrs wasnt so enthusiastic due to the problems & time spent from day 1, used the excuse we needed a big estate due to the dogs needing to ride in comfort,,,,that swung it!! anyhow she loves it as well now so alls well that ends well! :y

Swapped my V plate Nissan Primera estate for the TD estate because I needed a heavier car to tow the caravan.
Bought the TD privately just over 2 years ago and had to travel down to Wiltshire from Derbyshire to view it. On the test drive I thought what a big brute it was to drive, and high up driving position and solid compared to my Primera.
I just had to buy it at £2,500 for a car that cost over £20,000 new a mear 6 years earlier. I got £2500 for my Primera, so just the cost of fuel to get me home and never looked back.

First one I got was a 94 2.5td , had it for 7 years and in that time it had , starter, discs/pads , glow plugs , tyres ,exhaust(which I believe is still going strong on TB's car), and usual service items.
That was it ,did about 60k in it , most reliable and comfortable car I've ever had, but rot got it in the end.

Bought present one recently , hope it's as good !

I am suprised no-one has said RWD  :D :D
Seriously though, they are a lot for the money , have owned a 3.0 elite estate, a 3.0 elite auto (that at 12 year old had a rr done and was still supplying 207bhp ) and my latest a 2,5 cdx - which i felt is underpowered (after having veccy 2.5's)
As someone has  already said once i pull myself round money wise i will have an mv6 ....... or a 4.0 jag (see what i compare a migy to ! its testament to the quality of the mig :) )
But mine has gone for now   :'( :'(

I was brought up on RWD, oh, and Mini's. ;D
Loved my Rover 827 auto, that was fast but, sorry to say my best car was a Mitsubishi Galant, so fast that swmbo will not let it go, despite buying her a Mig last year to replace her's. Looks like I am selling the Mig, the Mitsubishi just keeps going with very little money being spend, despite 133K miles. :)

I went thro a range of cars, minis, A40's, 1.8 marina's, avenger, then a couple of cavalier's. We found ourselves with a growing family of 3, which you can't fit  in a cav's back seat without some arguments  ;D .

I liked Vx engineering, I could do most jobs myself, so no large garage bills, and I read a Car road test that said the ride was as good as a 5 series BM, so that was it. On my second one, and it still cruises so smooth.  :y :y :y
